Edward Eddie George, Jr.
Edward Eddie George, Jr. 67, of Roanoke Rapids passed away on Tuesday, January 14, 2020.
Eddie a native of Halifax County was the son of the late Edward George Sr. and Dorothy Wesson George. He was also preceded in death by his oldest daughter, Amanda George in 2010.
Eddie was a lifelong avid Green Bay Packers Fan and a 1970 graduate of Roanoke Rapids High School. While in High School Eddie was a standout football player. He was on the undefeated 1968 team, he played both ways in numerous games sometimes never leaving the field. Eddie had the most tackles in the 1970 North Carolina East West All Star Game and also, held that record for the most tackles in a season in the old 3 A conference. He was a 1975 graduate of Campbell College earning his teaching certificate. Eddie taught school in Northampton County and also coached girl's basketball for several years. Eddie was a lifelong entrepreneur; he started D. J.'s Night Club in Roanoke Rapids and also ran ICK's night club in Roanoke Rapids and Dillion's Night Club in Weldon for many years. He also started and ran Jackpot Bingo for many years. He also started Coconuts for the teenagers. Eddie took over the Roanoke Rapids Christmas parade when no one else would step up and took it to a new level and oversaw it for several years. Eddie loved riding his Harley Davidson traveling to many rallies. He loved NASCAR and was a lifelong member of DUCK's UNLIMITED, Turkey Federation and Promise Keeper. Eddie had a heart of gold and was always helping people.
Eddie is survived by his wife, Billie George; his daughter, Ameila George Wilson and her husband, Rob of Truxton, New York; his two sisters, Brenda Forsythe of Auburn, Washington and Marsha George of Richmond, VA.
He was a member of Valley Community Church in Weldon where a memorial service will be held on Monday, January 20, 2020 at 6pm with Pastors David Schmaltz and Jamie Taylor officiating and also speaking will be Phil Hux.
The family will receive friends after the service at the church.
